he pandemic has reduced our famed big fat Indian
weddings into slim affairs. The pomp and splendour
of the band, baaja, baraat with what seemed like a
1,000 people dancing for hours as they made their
T way to the venue, is no more in existence. Social
distancing and controlled numbers have made weddings more of
an intimate, family affair. There is a good and not-so-good side to
this. The good being that it has given everyone a reality check and
also proved that we don’t need to spend those senseless millions on
one night of revelry. The same can be done in a more sober and
sophisticated manner. The not-so-good news is that the family of
the bride and groom, who have waited all their lives for this
BIG day, are forced to make do with celebrations limited
only to family and their closest few, hence missing out on
many others who should have been part of it.. But, it is
what it is!
